“Clean Out the Freezer” Meal Planning

Freezer meal assembly in process

Between that freezer meal workshop I attended a couple of weeks ago, and a few too many grocery trips to Sam’s, our freezer is overflowing!  My plan this week is to cook as much as possible out of the freezer.  Here’s what’s on the menu:

After this week, I will have cooked about 5 meals from the freezer meal party.  I’m planning to share my thoughts about the products (Wildtree), the whole concept of freezer meal cooking, and maybe a giveaway!  Stay tuned.

  1. I always freeze leftovers so I tend to have a week where I have to “clean out the freezer” too! I used to do freezer meals that I can throw in the crockpot one day and I kinda miss it. I may try to do a few more to store in the freezer for a rainy day. I’m saving that crockpot chipotle lime chicken to try later, thanks for linking the recipe!

    • You’re welcome! That whole webpage is freezer meals, but they’re not all crockpot meals. The other ones you have to defrost and cook, but they marinate nicely while they’re thawing, so they are pretty good.

  2. What a great idea! I tend to make lots of a recipe for my lunches, then freeze the ones that I won’t eat within about 3 days. It definitely fills up the freezer quickly! I love the idea of cooking from the freezer over all, I will be staying tuned!

    • So far my favorite thing to do is make up freezer-to-crockpot meals… they’re really quick to assemble, then they cook all day while I’m at work, and they’re done when I get home. SO great.

  3. Oh yes: I’ll look forward to the full report! I’m in the middle of a freezer/pantry clean-out, too, and could use from extra inspiration. Doesn’t if feel so great to use something from the freezer? I love it!

    • I am working on the post now… trying not to write a novel in the process! It seems I have a lot to say on this subject. I may have to break it into two posts or just slow my roll a bit. =)

    • For me, setting aside time to do it is a little overwhelming. Maybe next time you make something that’s freezer-friendly, like lasagna, enchiladas, or even something for the crockpot, make a double batch (which really isn’t much more work) and freeze one. Just don’t forget it’s in there once it’s frozen! =)

    • Yes!!! Grease is one of my favorite movies — that was the inspiration for my blog name. My post on the freezer meal workshop is scheduled for tomorrow, with a giveaway! Hope to see you again, Rubiena. =)

  4. I love the “clean out the freezer” meal planning. This should be a regular for me. It would cut down on me buying double items because I don’t look deep down in the freezer. Not to mention saving me tons of money. Might be able to get around to doing this in a few days because we’re expecting tons of snow and I’ll have some time on my hands….

    • I have the bad habit of not looking very deep into the freezer, either, then I finally get in there and have to throw stuff out that’s freezer burned beyond all recognition! Gotta use it up! Thanks for visiting, Sharon.

  5. If it’s a party, I’m there :). Always more fun with a crowd. I froze a bunch of meals right before we had our daughter, but somehow I just can’t seem to get on board 100%. Maybe ’cause we eat Asian food, like stir fry, quite often and I don’t see the need to freeze that when it’s so fast to make. Maybe I’d freeze mise en place.

  6. I really need to start doing freezer meals. I always have energy in the morning, but once 4pm rolls around, I really don’t want to cook. Thanks for some ideas!

    Stopping by from SITS!
