What getting back into shape after having a baby *really* looks like

postpartum fitness

Since I’m still in the middle of trying to get back into shape after having a baby, when I got the opportunity to write a guest post for one of my favorite fitness bloggers, I thought I’d share my experience with that process.  If you love your fitness with a side of wonderfully inappropriate swears and hilarious gifs, you should definitely check her out.  Kathy and I do definitely have one thing in common, though — we have “found fitness Jesus.”  If you’ve ever read her blog, you know that getting into shape, not matter what your circumstances, is not easy, but it is worth it.

To read my tips for getting back into shape after having a baby, whether your baby is 6 weeks old or several years old, join me over at Vodka and Soda.  (And yes… that is my real post-partum pooch.  Medals of bravery for putting that picture on the internet may be sent to my attention, c/o “Have you gone mad?”)

  1. Great list! (And a fun to blog to check out too!) Getting the timing right with child care has been the toughest for me. My youngest is a really early riser so no more runs before the kids wake up for me! I think I’ve found a good rhythm now of going right after school drop-off but learning to be flexible with my workouts was definitely my hardest post-kid lesson!

  2. Brave, brave, brave for posting that pic! Thank you for doing it. I am so sick of post-partum pics of women who look like they’ve never been pregnant or look fantastic 6 months after baby was born. I FINALLY put away all the maternity clothes after 6 months, but didn’t start my serious weight-loss until this summer (LO was 18m). Great tips! Second time around I need to plan freezer meals post-baby. I totally stressed about what to eat when I was starving, but did learn to love my crockpot. Better yet, if you know someone who us having a baby, make them a meal!

    • You’re welcome! I think “crazy” might be the right description for me, but I think it’s important to be realistic about what a mama’s body looks like after having a baby (and remember that feeding and caring for that sweet new baby is more important than looking hot in a swimsuit anyway). I completely agree — a homemade meal is the BEST gift you can bring to a family with a new baby. Thanks for stopping by, Scarlett!
