What I’m Into, November 2013

Think I can finish it by Christmas?

I’m into sneaking in some knitting time whenever I can!  Think I can finish it by Christmas?

Excited for…all right, we’re past Thanksgiving, so I can say it — CHRISTMAS!!! I love this time of year, and I especially love seeing it through the eyes of my kids.

Enjoying…my new gift-buying strategy of getting the same thing for as many people as possible. For years I’ve driven myself crazy trying to get a perfect, unique gift for each individual on my list.  And you know what?  Except for a few people, it’s not worth it.  So when I find something good, I’m buying it for lots of people.  I found a really great deal on a pretty vase from DaySpring’s Super Deals earlier this month — I bought seven.

Planning…some exciting blog stuff — a big multi-blogger giveaway (come back on Monday!), an end of the year series, and maybe a few more design tweaks to go with my new blog header.

Cooking…(well, really meal planning) has gotten a lot easier since I started doing theme nights!

Watching…same ol’, same ol’… Parenthood, Parks & Rec, Go Diego Go!  That last one is not by my choice.  =)  Are Joel and Julia really going to get divorced?  Argh….

Wearing…hand-knit everything!  Scarves and socks, especially.  I don’t have much time to knit these days, but every year when the weather gets cold, I am very thankful that I was such a prolific knitter once upon a time.

Praying…my sister gets some answers from some medical tests she had done earlier this week.  It’s nothing life-threatening, but I’d sure love for the doctors to figure out what’s going on and how to fix it.

Reading…Yes!  After a bit of a lull, I’ve finally gotten excited about reading again!  (Here’s a great post about breaking out of a reading rut, if you’re suffering from one too.)  I’ve read a mystery, a book of essays, and I just started a novel.

Snapping… Christmas card photos.  We took a million pictures over Thanksgiving, so I hope at least one of them is Christmas card-worthy.

Linking up with HopefulLeigh.

  1. Christmas is overwhelming to me and I am late to get started this year. I’m going to be busy these next few weeks for sure! What I’d really like to do is make a bunch of photo gifts…I love giving and receiving gifts from the heart. They mean so much more! But the kids have their lists on Amazon, of course!

    • I think photo gifts sound wonderful! You should still have plenty of time to make them or have them made. Christmas can be overwhelming for me too, but I just try to focus on doing things I enjoy and not so much on stuff I think I’m “supposed” to do.

  2. Your posts always make me want to knit!!

I used to be obsessed with Parenthood. We blew through 2-3 seasons on Netflix and then started watching live. I kind of lost interest when they were hinting that Joel/Julia were splitting. They were always my favorite couple. I haven’t watched it much since Julia started chatting w/ that guy at school. Let me know if they work it out and I’ll start watching again. LOL

As for Diego, I feel your pain! Campbell went through a huge Diego obsession. At least it’s over now…and she watches more of a variety of shows so we don’t get crazed by them.

    • Thank you! I’ll be glad when I get past the fancy stuff and can just cruise through the heel and foot. I think I’m running out of white yarn though. Argh…

  3. The stocking looks beautiful! You’re doing a wonderful job with the Fair Isle part.

Thanks for the post about reading. I’ve been in a rut myself and trying to come up with ways to get out of it.

  4. I’m really behind on shopping. I haven’t started it yet! I haven’t gotten into that spirit yet. Usually it hits me and then I’m so there. Today we went to a big lights extravaganza and that did help. Once I’m there, though, I’ll probably figure out my gifts. A lot of the family members get my professional photography framed. I hope they’re not getting sick of it yet!

    • You’re not behind – you’ve got plenty of time! I rarely shop early, so this year is kind of weird for me. I bet your family members love getting your photos, you do beautiful work. =)

    • I’m pretty sure holiday lights are one of my favorite parts about Christmas. I get so sad in January when it’s still dark and cold but there are no twinkly lights to make the night feel festive. I love the New Year too — since I am addicted to making lists and setting goals, I gotta love the clean-slate feeling of a new year.

    • Thank you! I’m happy with the way the stocking is coming out, I just hope it looks similar to the other stockings that I knit about 4 years ago for the rest of the family! We’ll see how my gifting strategy works… hopefully people won’t mind opening up the same gift as someone else!

  6. Ha! The Go, Diego Go made me smile. I’m not too far past those days. I still remember them all-too clearly.

I’ve never gotten into Parenthood, but I’m tempted as it’s been highly recommended by so many whose opinion I trust.

Can’t wait for the end-of-the-year blog series, and of course Twitterature, so I can see what you’ve been reading.

Thinking good thoughts for your sister and wishing godspeed for conclusive test results.

    • I really like Parenthood, but I know a lot of people couldn’t watch it because of the cancer storyline last season. Mary has a few more tests but we are hopeful she’ll get some answers soon.

  7. Seriously, all you uber-talented MO bloggers/crafters are blowing me away. My husband doesn’t even let me wrap Christmas presents because I literally can’t cut a straight line, even with those lines printed on the back of wrapping paper. I’m just going to keep admiring all the beautiful work y’all do and try to stay out of trouble and away from scissors. 😛

    • My MIL is a stickler for it — she always wants us to take Xmas photos when we’re at her house for Thanksgiving. Give in to the theme dinner nights, it’s so retro it’s cool again.

    • Yes – giving myself some guidelines for picking recipes has really streamlined and simplified meal planning. And my husband hasn’t complained about having the same thing too often, so it must be working well.

    • This was my first one, but if I ever am asked again (or get really crazy and organize one myself), I’ll definitely keep you in mind. I am giggling about your “puzzles” comment – that’s the knitting pattern! =)

  8. We didn’t do Christmas card photos this year. I am missing not having them. We have a big family photo shoot planned for this spring though before my two oldest are off with the wind- one moving to TX for seminary, the other traveling the globe with Adventures in Missions World Race. Hope you have a Merry Christmas, Amy
